Free Reverse Cell Phone Directory-Does One Exist Online?

Do you need to find someone and all you have is a cellular phone number? If you're like many people, the first place you turn is probably the internet.

Everyday thousands of people visit Google.com and other search engines to try and find the official cell phone directory to conduct a reverse search.

I've got bad news. It doesn't exist!

That's certainly not to say you can't find a cell phone number using Google.com and other search engines. If you simply type the cell phone number into the search bar, you'd be amazed how many times you can find the owner in the regular search results. Unfortunately, most people don't try this method first.

Although there's not an official cell phone directory available on the internet yet, there are several volunteer cell phone directories popping up and gaining popularity. These sites allow you to opt-in your cell phone number and then you have the right to search for other cell phone numbers.

They promise not to let your cell number get into the hands of telemarketers and some of them notify you when anyone searches for your phone number.

Below are a few of these websites that you might:

  • cellphonedirectory.com: This is one site that's really gaining steam. You can search or submit your cell phone number to their database for free. It's a volunteer site and you can edit or remove your listing at anytime.
  • nationalcellulardirectory.com: This is another free cell phone number directory. You can search for a person's cell number or conduct a reverse cell phone number search only after you have added your own phone number to their database.
  • free-reverse-cell-phone-directory.com: This is another free reverse mobile phone directory. You can also add your number here, but it's not required to search for cell numbers.
There are a few more independent cell phone directories popping up on the internet all the time. Currently, the mobile phone carriers endorse none of them. That may be changing soon. All of the major cell phone carriers (except Verizon Wireless) are working together to create the first official cell phone directory. It will only list phone numbers of customers who have opted into the plan so you still won't be able to find many numbers initially. It's still not currently known at what extent you will have access to this database. It may be restricted to 411 services or it may be published online. It will not be printed in a traditional phonebook style.
